A big thank you to everyone who joined our recent webinar co-hosted by Agritrack SA and Food Law Experts. The discussion was substantive and focused on practical issues, with a clear emphasis on the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2023/2842 that introduce new and binding obligations for the sector.
At the core of the Regulation lies a decisive shift towards four mandatory Digital Traceability Pillars, fundamentally reshaping compliance requirements across the fisheries and aquaculture supply chain:
- Digital: Traceability data must be captured and maintained electronically. Paper-based or fragmented records are no longer sufficient.
- Immediate: Information must be available without delay to competent authorities, enabling real-time controls and inspections.
- End-to-End: Traceability must follow each product lot from harvest or landing through processing, transport, and distribution. No breaks, no blind spots.
- Interoperable: Data must be standardised and readable across systems and Member States, preventing silos and ensuring a single version of the truth.
Date | General application for Chapter 3 Operators: 10 January 2026
The implementation of the Regulation is approaching, but operators still have a realistic window for preparation. Those who act promptly can take the necessary steps and meet the requirements of the new framework effectively.
Recommended solution for quick and effective compliance | A combined approach that combines Agritrack’s GDST-certified interoperable digital traceability solution with legal assessment and regulatory guidance from Food Law Experts enables operators to implement the required digital, immediate, end-to-end, and interoperable traceability in a way that is operationally effective and legally robust.
