Digital submission does not equal interoperability.
The revised EU Fisheries Control Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/2842, represents an important step toward global digital seafood traceability. However, moving from paper-based processes to digital submission also creates practical operational challenges.
That is why we are proud to have participated in the EU Cluster for Food Integrity and Trust task force and to have co-authored the recently published white paper:
“CATCH in Practice: Bridging Regulatory Intent and Operational Reality under Regulation (EU) 2023/2842.”
The white paper highlights several issues that still need to be addressed, including manual data re-entry, inconsistent interpretation, missing or unclear technical specifications, and interoperability enablement. It also presents five practical recommendations to support the effective implementation.

At Agritrack SA, we design traceability solutions that support interoperability through GDST and alignment with international regulatory requirements, while improving efficiency rather than adding administrative burden.
To further support operators, we offer AquaTrack AI, a CATCH Traceability Intelligence Center that uses AI to convert Paperwork (CATCH certificates, BOLs, Invoices, etc) into Structured Traceability Data. This means:
•Seamless AI-powered data extraction
•Less manual data entry
•Fewer errors and lower admin costs
We want to thank the EU Cluster for Food Integrity and Trust, our fellow co-authors, and the teams supporting FOODGUARD and ACT4FOOD for their contribution to this important milestone!
